Course Descriptions for Directors Retreat 2010

First Steps Toward Faith with Preschoolers – Tommy Sanders:  Play is the way preschoolers learn. This course will help you discover how preschoolers learn and how you can create an environment that guides preschoolers to encounter Bible truths. Learn how to guide the next generation, ultimately leading to conversion and spiritual transformation later in life.

Making Meetings Fun … Full Tilt, Wild and Wacky! – Cassey Chapman: Oh, the places we will play…while the kids are away… in a tent, under the stars – why we may even pretend we are going to Mars! Who says we can’t grab joy along the journey? Everyone on your staff wants to be included, engaged, feel part of a team, family and Community. Help your staff  learn and connect as a team through play! Who says staff meetings have to be boring?????

Ministering to Families and Putting Christ First – Karin Laymance: In John 16:33, Jesus told us “in this world you WILL have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” Trouble will come sooner or later to all of us, because we live in a fallen world. What if we made Jesus the priority of our lives? Discover the tangible ways to minister to families in your school and lead them to the ONE who can make all the difference in their family.

Issues Facing Todays Child – Dr. Brandy Schumann: Today, even our youngest community members are exposed to challenging environments and events. Along with their parents and guardians, they brave our social, emotional, physical, moral and economic climate. Join us as we explore key issues facing the next generation and how to attend to their resulting needs.

Staff Motivation and Development – Cynthia Garrison: Working with staff members and teachers can sometimes be a challenge. Trying to understand their unique strengths/weaknesses and keep them motivated takes creativity and strategies focused on the individual staff member. Join us as we discuss the discover techniques designed to encourage motivation and growth in your classrooms.

Talking to Parents About Appropriate Practices – Marianne Gibbs: Let’s talk about the What’s, How’s, and Why’s of hand skill development as it relates to the appropriate development of children 3-6. Learn how to articulate the connection between specific developmentally appropriate fine motor activities/strategies and future efficient handwriting.  This “must see” session contains critical information for directors… Write Out of the Box!

Staff Devotions-Leading Them Step by Step – Cassey Chapman: Making God’s word a vital part of your day does not have to be limited to sitting and reading it from the Bible, contrary to what many may think! Rejuvenate and gain perspective by learning that sometimes you need to initiate those fun times again! The more we devote ourselves to the scriptures and God’s teaching, the more we will grow and discover the treasures He has in store for us. What kinds of treasures do you find when you dig into God’s word? Learn how to bring staff devotions back to life in fun and creative ways.

Working with Difficult Personalities – Cynthia Garrison: Different personalities can be challenging especially when the personalities clash with your own. Join us as we identify the most common difficult personalities and discuss strategies so working with individuals becomes less stressful and more productive.

Guarding the Next Generation and Involving the Whole Family – Karin Laymance: These are dangerous times in which we live and our children’s future is at stake. “This is no afternoon athletic contest that we’ll walk away from and forget about in a couple of hours. This is for keeps, a life or death fight to the finish against the Devil and all his angels.” Ephesians 6:12 (The Message). Discover ways to guard our children and lead their families to be strong and true. Uncover the weapons God has provided for the fight, and stand in the gap for the next generation.

Guarding Your Health and Wellness – Marcia McQuitty: The Apostle Paul encourages us to “present your bodies as a living sacrifice, hold and pleasing to God”; this is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” Romans 12: 1-2. How do the spiritual and physical components of our life work together to bring glory to God?
